The Char Dham Yatra: Why?
Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, together known as the Char Dhams, are regarded as some of the holiest Hindu sites. Additionally, all people are obligated by Hindu scriptures to visit these hallowed sanctuaries at least once in their lifetime. The Yamuna river from Yamunotri, the Ganges river from Gangotri, the Mandakini river from Kedarnath, and the Alaknanda river from Badrinath all have their source in these shrines. It is thought that making a journey to these four sacred sites offers redemption to the followers, releasing them from the cycle of reincarnation.
