Kedarnath: The magnificent Kedarnath range serves as the backdrop for the picturesque Kedarnath shrine, one of Lord Shiva's twelve jyotirlingas. Lord Shiva is also known by the name Kedar. Legend has it that after defeating the Kaurava in the Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas felt bad for killing their own brothers and turned to Lord Shiva for forgiveness. He frequently escaped them and sought sanctuary at Kedarnath in the shape of a bull. He left his hump on the ground as he plunged into the dirt while being pursued.

When does the Chardham Yatra begin and finish?
Since the doors of all four temples—Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yumunotri, and Gangotri—remain open until the day of the "Diwali Festival," which is observed annually in October or November, the Chardham Yatra always starts in April or May and lasts until October or November. One of the major Hindu holidays is "Diwali festival," also known as "Deepawali," with dates chosen by holy saints, gurus, and priests in accordance with the Hindu calendar. Since all of these temples are situated in isolated areas of the Himalayan Mountains where life is difficult to live due to unpredictable weather, they all seal their doors for the next five or six months after Diwali due to severe snowfall and extremely low temperatures.
What role does Char Dham play in Hinduism?
According to Hindu doctrine, Char Dham refers to four sacred locations in India. Collectively referred to as India's Chardham, PURI, DWARKA, BADRINATH, and RAMESHWARAM are the holiest of all pilgrimages. It is thought that visiting these sacred temples spread throughout India's four regions will cleanse one of their sins and release them from the circle of mortality.
Nevertheless, some people refer to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinathji (in Uttaranchal) as Char Dham, even though they are not truly Char Dham. Any Dham is a hallowed location, but "Char Dham" really refers to the four Shankaracharyas who reside in Puri, Dwarka, Badrinath, and Rameshwaram.
How can I get to the temples and Chardham Yatra Circuit?
Given that Delhi is India's capital and has connections to practically every country in the world as well as all of India's main cities via a variety of air and rail connections, the Chardham Yatra can begin in either Delhi or Haridwar. Road communication between Delhi and Haridwar is excellent; it takes about five hours to travel 210 km. Dehradun by helicopter budget (Joly Grant Aiport), which is only 41 kilometers (about an hour's drive) from Haridwar, is accessible by air from Delhi. The train ride from Delhi to Haridwar takes about four to five hours, and the closest railway station is about 16 kilometers before "Har-Ki-Pauri" (Haridwar). Delhi, Hardiwar, Barkot, Yamunotri, Uttarkashi, Gangotri, Guptkashi, Kedarnath, Rudraprayag, Badrinath, Joshimath, Srinagar (Garwal), Rishikesh, and Delhi are the starting points of the Chardham Yatra. The trip from Delhi to Delhi takes about 12 days, and the trip from Haridwar to Haridwar takes about 11 days.
For Chardham Yatra Darshan, what should I pack?
The Chardham Yatra is regarded as one of the most difficult in the Himalayan region, thus it should not be taken lightly. To complete this circuit, one must be in good physical and mental health. Since the daytime is hot and the evening is comfortable, but the nights can occasionally be extremely chilly, the weather in Char Dham Circuit is extremely unpredictable and varies nearly three times a day. Heavy wool clothing, such as a warm jacket, coat, sweater, gloves, and wool socks, as well as appropriate walking shoes with traction, sandals and slippers, and a first aid kit, is advised. Additionally, keep insect repellent or lotions on hand to prevent mosquito-borne illnesses. The weather on this circuit can change at any time, so it is also possible to bring a raincoat.
If you suffer from any of these conditions, such as allergies, diabetes, asthma, or any other condition that may necessitate emergency care, do not forget to bring personal medications with you to Char Dham Circuit. It is also highly recommended that you bring prescriptions for the medications, and ideally a letter from your doctor with you.
