SIGNIFICANCE
YAMUNOTRI
At a height of 3293 meters, Yamunotri Temple is located in the western Garhwal Himalayas. The temple was constructed in the 1800s by Jaipur's Maharani Gularia. The river Yamuna is worshipped in the temple; she is shown as a silver image that has been restored by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal and is covered in flowers.

The Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal constructed the Temple dedicated to the heavenly mother Yamuna. Yamunotri feels an intense sense of veneration for the pious, which is heightened by the small Yamuna's very cold water, innocence, and infantile purity. The trail leading to Yamunotri is incredibly breathtaking, with an array of craggy peaks and thick forests.

There are hot springs near the temple that shoot out of the crevices in the mountains. The most significant Kund is the Suryakund. There is a shila named Divya Shila close to the Suryakund, which is revered before the deity is offered puja. By immersing rice and potatoes in these hot springs and tying them up with muslin cloth, pilgrims prepare them to gift at the shrine. Once cooked, rice is brought home and served as prasadam.

GANGOTRI
Situated on the left side of the Bhagirathi river, the 18th-century Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa constructed the Gangotri shrine.
Nestled among pine and deodar trees, the shrine is surrounded by stunning scenery.
It is located next to the Bhagirath Shila, also known as the sacred rock, where King Bhagirath had worshipped Lord Shiva.

BADRINATH
Known as Singhdwar, the main entrance gate of the Badarinath temple is a striking and vibrant sight. The temple has a small cupola on top and stands about 50 feet tall. The roof is decorated with gold gilt.

There are three sections to the Badarinath temple:
(A) The sanctum sanctorum, also known as the Garbha Griha
(B) The Darshan Mandap, a location for ceremonies and
(c) The pilgrims' assembly place, the Sabha Mandap.

Lord Badarinarayan's chariot and carrier, Bird Garud, is represented by a seated statue at the Badarinath Mandir Gate, just across from the main idol of the Lord himself. Garud is depicted seated with his hands folded in prayer. The mandapa's pillars and walls are adorned in elaborate sculptures.

The Garbha Griha section houses Lord Badari Narayan, Kuber (the God of wealth), Narad rishi, Udhava, Nar, and Narayan under a canopy wrapped in a sheet of gold. The one-meter-tall, exquisitely carved black stone image of Lord Badarinath is the most beautiful of the fifteen idols.

KEDARNATH
In the Uttarakhand area of Chamoli, there are around 200 shrines honoring Lord Shiva; the most significant of these is Kedarnath.

The Temple at Kedarnath is a striking site, situated in the center of a broad plateau encircled by towering peaks blanketed in snow. The temple was constructed by Jagad Guru Adi Shankaracharya in the eighth century A.D. It is located next to the site of an even older temple that the Pandavas had constructed.

The beautiful architecture of the Kedarnath temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Constructed from colossal, weighty, and precisely chiseled grey stone slabs, it begs the question of how these dense blocks were transported and managed in bygone eras.

The temple features a Mandap that is suitable for gatherings of pilgrims and guests, as well as a Garbha Griha for worship. Within the temple, a conical rock formation is revered as Lord Shiva in the form of Sadashiva.
